Golden Grass & Cowboy Hats: A Fall Engagement Session on the Ranch in Eastern Colorado

When I say this session felt like home, I mean it. Baylor and Jenna’s engagement photos took place on his family’s working ranch out in Eastern Colorado—and from the moment we pulled up, I knew it was going to be something special.

The golden grass stretched for miles, the skies were wide open, and the only sounds were the soft rustle of the wind and the distant low of their cattle. For couples like Baylor and Jenna, the ranch is their story. So instead of heading to a trendy photo spot, they chose the pasture they spend their real life in—and it made every image feel honest and deeply personal.

What Made This Western Engagement Session So Unique?

Authenticity Over Aesthetic
Jenna wore a simple white dress with boots, her brown felt hat pulled down low. Baylor wore his blue jeans and a striped button-up. No styling team, no forced poses. Just two people, completely in love, doing what they do best—being themselves.

Incorporating the Ranch Life
We wandered through the tall grass with cattle grazing behind them, which added such a powerful layer of meaning. These weren’t just pretty photos—they were a slice of their story, captured in a moment they’ll always be able to look back on.

Fall in Eastern Colorado = Magic
If you’ve never seen the way fall light hits golden pastures out here, you’re missing something spiritual. The sunset gave us that warm, honey-colored glow that made everything feel romantic and peaceful. It’s hands-down one of my favorite seasons to shoot on the plains.
